Center punching the cup arms. |
We're going to put a fairly big hole in stainless here so we MUST start with a
small pilot drill, and you HAVE to use oil. Put another drop on once or twice as you
drill. |
First the pilot hole ... |
Then the full size hole. |
Then a large over-sized drill to deburr the back of the hole. |
And now we're ready to bolt them to the cap. |
We want the four arms equally spaced around the cap, which can be tough to lay
out unless you use this trick ... Wrap a piece of paper around the cap so that the
ends of the paper overlap. Draw a short line across both pieces of paper. |
Lay the paper back out and extend lines from the two marks you just made. |
Use a ruler to find the midpoint between the two lines, and draw a third line |
Now find the midpoint in each of those spaces, and draw two more lines.. |
You should end up with 5 equally spaced lines. |
Wrap the paper back around the cap. The lines on the ends should line up. Mark
the cap at each line. Your marks are now perfectly spaced. |
Measure up from the rim at each mark, and center punch for the drill. |
Now drill out ONE hole for each arm. Do NOT drill the second holes. |
